The award was founded in 2021, dedicated to the memory of fellow colleague and environmentalist, Alessandro Cocco. Plants compete on important environmental KPIs. As well as competing against each other, each plant works to raise its own best practice baseline.

By having just one printing colour on our product packaging, and reducing the percentage of packaging that it is printed on, we can both improve the quality of the recyclates – unlocking the possibility of a higher circularity (wastage will be eliminated) – and reduce the cost of printing. For example, in Italy, on our main foil we changed the white background and blue logo to a black logo with no background colour. Our annual consumption of the main foil is approximately 100 tonnes, and by making this switch we achieve a yearly saving of €25,000 (0.25Euros/Kg).
